- Connect and test electrics: plug in the electrical connector and have a second person confirm that tail lights, brake lights, indicators and clearance markers all illuminate correctly at the rear of the trailer
- Test brakes: apply the trailer brakes independently using the in-cab controller or breakaway lanyard, confirm the wheels lock, then release and check for free rotation without dragging
- Inspect tyres and wheels: check each tyre for tread depth, sidewall damage, correct pressure and any embedded objects, then verify wheel nuts are tight by applying a torque wrench or using a check pattern
- Verify load restraint: confirm the load is within the rated capacity, check that all tie-downs are tensioned correctly and that the load cannot shift forward, rearward or laterally during transport
