Is a SIM card included with GPS devices?

Yes. All MapTrack GPS devices come with a pre-installed SIM card that is fully activated and ready to use. You don’t need to purchase or configure anything additional—just install the device and it will begin reporting automatically.

How do I install a GPS device?

Installation depends on the model:

  • Battery-powered GPS:
    Simply mount it using screws, adhesive, or brackets. No wiring is required.
  • Hardwired GPS:
    Connect to the vehicle’s power source (IGN, VCC, GND).
    Many models are plug-and-play via OBD port for fast installation.

Can GPS devices be moved between assets?

Yes. All GPS devices can be reassigned between assets at any time.

Battery-powered devices can be moved instantly, while hardwired devices only require a quick disconnection and reconnection. In MapTrack, updating the asset assignment takes just a few clicks.

How long does the battery last?

Battery life varies by model and update frequency:

  • BLE Beacons: 3–8 years
  • Battery GPS trackers: 2–10 years depending on motion and reporting interval

What happens if a device goes offline?

If a device loses mobile or satellite coverage, it will continue logging trip and sensor data locally. Once it regains connectivity, it automatically uploads all stored data to MapTrack.

If the device remains offline for too long, the system will alert you for investigation.
